SCIENTIFIC STORYTELLING

COMMUNICATION FAILED – AN EXAMPLE

999 out of 1,000 scientists are convinced that humans are primarily responsible for climate change. That’s basically all of them.

490 out of 1,000 Americans believe this too.
That’s less than half.

Less than half is not much.
A bold thesis: something has gone wrong in science communication.

WHAT IF…

IF SCIENCE WAS COMMUNICATED IN A WAY THAT…

  • Even complex relationships would be understandable to a wider audience?
  • The fear of errors and a lack of precision wouldn’t lead to excessive obsession with detail?
  • The scientists’ passion for their subject would actually be palpable?
  • Charm and humor would play a role?
  • The way the presentation was done would be perfectly tailored to the audience?
  • Facts told as a tailor-made story?

APPROACH

Participants work on their performance skills using tools from the field of acting:

  • What constitutes presence?
  • How can I achieve an impact through gestures and posture?
  • How can I use breath and voice to support the message?
  • How do I establish meaningful eye contact?

The other main focus is on storytelling:

  • What narrative structure helps to create a compelling story from a series of facts?
  • How do I find supporting images and metaphors?
  • How can I use emotions while remaining serious?

The work is extremely practice-oriented. Keen observation and supportive mutual feedback contribute to anchoring what has been learned, as does trying out new behavioral patterns just outside one’s comfort zone.

By structuring the storytelling journey in several stages, we ensure its transfer to everyday life.

THE TRAINER

Thanks to his knowledge and experience from around 15 years of acting and 10 years of teaching/training, as well as his skills as a Core Energy Coach, Marco Zbinden guarantees that all participants will leave the course with concrete, actionable takeaways.

STOP TALKING, START ACTING
